Governor Angus King in his State of the State Address Jan. 23rd:
"If we lose our community, we lose our spirit, we lose our identity, we lose our soul, and we lose the things that make all else valuable. And if it's lost, all the taxes and government programs in the world won't bring it back." King concluded, "citizens at this time must make conscious choices to seize the future and to respond to the challenges and opportunities of change. . . ."
The workshop was held at Mountain View School, in Sullivan, Maine on Saturday, March 24, 2001. The goals were to:
1. Examine the issues and the strategies around the role of development and the future of the Schoodic area.
2. Deepen our understanding of the connection between communities, natural resources, and the economy.
3. Clarify a positive direction for our region and develop an action agenda that supports that vision.
4. Build common ground among diverse perspectives on how to move such an agenda forward
2001 Conference Proceedings provide readers with an overview of the regions assets and possibility, as presented by Evan Richert, Director of the Maine State Planning Office, a summary of the findings from four focus groups and contact information for many of the planners and participants.
